KOLKATA: A total of 1.5 lakh candidates cleared the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET), the results of which were published by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education on Friday. Around 6.9 lakh candidates appeared for the test that was held on December 11, 2022.
This year’s top two positions are bagged by five women, the topper being East Burdwan’s Ina Singha, who scored 133 out of 155. The first six positions are bagged by 17 women and 177 candidates are among the top 10 ranks. “I am thrilled, I did not expect such a score. I qualified for the central TET with a score of 131 last year. I hope transparency will be maintained during recruitment,” said Ina.
Board president Goutam Paul said they planned to conduct the next TET in 2023-end.
The last time TET was held before this was in January 31, 2021, though the ad for assistant teachers in primary schools (classes I to V) was published in 2017 and forms were also filled that year. The exam was pushed back and finally, 1.9 lakh candidates had appeared for the test in 2021; the results were declared on January 11, 2022, when 9,896 candidates qualified. The number of candidates who took the test in 2022 was nearly thrice the 2021 figure though the highest number of applicants was recorded in 2014 at 23 lakh.
This time, four girls-Monalisa Kundu from Hooghly, Meghna Chakraborty and Dipika Roy from W Midnapore and Aditi Majumdar from E Midnapore-stood second with a score of 132. Meghna said, “The test was transparent.”
Education minister Bratya Basu said, “The department has taken steps to make the process transparent.” Paul said, “It was a transparent process. All OMR sheets have been saved. If candidates find any error, then can alert us.” He added recruitment would start once vacancy list was ready.
