CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: Police have arrested a youth, who made it to the merit list of the Parbhani police recruitment exam, for submitting a fraudulent project-affected certificate to bag a government job.
A middleman and a retired clerk of the Parbhani district collector’s office, who also served with the rehabilitation department, has also been arrested in this connection.
Superintendent of police Ragasudha R told TOI, “We suspect that there is more to it than meets the eye. The accused have revealed that there are three more people who have similarly obtained ‘project-affected’ certificates and bagged government jobs in different departments. We are probing the same.”
The arrested accused have been identified as Pramod Raut (28) of Razadgaon, Tukaram Pavde (32) of Anandnagar and Prabhakar Mitkari (67) of Vrundavan Colony, all from Parbhani.
Ragasudha said that Raut had made it to the merit list of the police recruitment process carried out between January and April this year. “Considering the past instances of candidates submitting project-affected certificates obtained either fraudulently or even forged ones, we have made it mandatory for a police team led by a senior inspector to personally verify each of these certificates,” she said.
During the verification carried out with the respective village’s talathi, no record of such certificate issued to Raut was found. This was followed by the police team reaching out to the district rehabilitation office, which also did not issue any certificate to Raut. Based on the FIR lodged by inspector Prakash Rathod the accused have been booked and arrested for cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy.
