Three persons, including the husband of a woman sarpanch, were shot dead over a land dispute at Phulra village in Kahnuwan sub division of Gurdaspur district on Monday.

Nishan Singh’s family members said the three victims were in a field belonging to Sukhraj on the bank of the Beas river when a group of armed men arrived from Dasuya in Hoshiarpur district. The eyewitnesses said that the group had come to take possession of the land. When Sukhraj and Jaimal resisted, the men opened fire at them.
All three were rushed to hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
Police reached the spot and investigation is on, while a hunt is on for the assailants.
