PUNE: A Kothrud-based man who had gone swimming in the waters of Pavana dam on Friday afternoon was found dead on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as 40-year-old Laxman Baban Sathe.
Lonavla (rural) police told TOI, “We have registered a case of accidental death. He died due to drowning.” The police have recorded Sathe’s nephew’s statement.
Sathe had gone to stay with his relatives who live in the Chavsar village near the backwaters of the dam, the police said.
“On Friday afternoon, he told his relatives he was going swimming in the dam. After a few minutes, he started to swim back to the banks and disappeared in the water.”
When he didn’t return, his relatives and neighbours raised an alarm and called the authorities, the police added. “The local authorities and rescue teams carried out a search operation on Friday evening, but they failed to locate him. The operation resumed on Saturday morning, and his body was eventually found around 1.30 pm.”
