AURANGABAD: City police carried out a dedicated drive to arrest criminals, who were either on the run or facing non-bailable warrants, and arrested as many as 554 accused in the past five months.
To ensure effective results, dedicated squads have been formed at all the 17 police stations in the city. Aurangabad commissioner of police Nikhil Gupta said the initiative is set to benefit the police as well as the society at large.
“During the routine crime review meeting we found that considerable number of suspects were either on the run, absconding or were dishonouring the summons as well as non-bailable warrants. Hence, we decided to go all out against them,” Gupta said.
He added that the drive started in August, 2022 and will continue further.
Sharing more information, crime branch inspector Avinash Aghav said so far a total of 38 absconding criminals were arrested and put behind bars. “In addition to this, a total of 421 accused wanted in different body and property offences have also been arrested,” he added.
