BENGALURU: The time to apply for foreign universities is approaching, but students who graduated from Srishti School of Design, Art and Technology in 2020-21 have no cause to cheer as their certificates still remain elusive hampering their plans, reports Sruthy Susan Ullas.
TOI reported in February that how several students of the premier design institute did not get their final-semester marksheets and degree certificates even though they completed their course in June 2021.
Student: One whole year will be wasted
Bengaluru City University had termed the exams “invalid”. The issue has, in fact, affected three batches graduated in 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 when the school was affiliated to Bengaluru City University. Srishti school has now approached the high court.
Srishti founder-director Geetha Narayanan said the matter is sub-judice and, hence, will refrain from making comments. Students are in a dilemma as the delay in getting certificates is affecting their plans.
“I had applied to universities in the UK for higher education. I got conditional offer letters based on my portfolio and academic record. University for the Creative Arts offered me a scholarship for the September 2022 semester. However, they were not convinced with the letters and provisional/completion certificates that the college sent us. They have denied admission until I produce a final degree certificate or a provisional degree certificate from Bengaluru City University. One whole academic year will be wasted because I don’t have a degree certificate,” a student told TOI.
Many students have found jobs within the country based on their work profile and skill sets. However, the deadline to submit their original certificates to the employers is nearing. All the students quoted for this report are from the 2020-21 batch.
“When we get offer letters, employers do not insist on degree certificates as it usually takes a year. I work for an MNC now. But the HR team is constantly asking me for a date by which I can submit my certificates. If they ask me to leave the company, I do not think I will find another job without the certificates,” said another.
A parent, whose daughter is currently in Canada, said: “Our plan was to complete two years of studies in Srishti, and then shift to Canada. According to early plans, we could transfer the credits from here to the university there. We spent Rs 25 lakh and enrolled her in Canada. Now, we are unable to transfer credits. If we are unable to do it by September 2022, the college there would consider her as freshman. We would lose two years, and the fees for the additional two years. It’s emotionally and financially traumatic for us.”
