BENGALURU: The email sent to a city school with a hoax bomb threat on Sunday evening was the handiwork of a class 10 student of the institution, police said.
Cops detained the boy on Tuesday to record his statement. The student claimed the school was about to conduct the first-semester exam from July 21 and he was not prepared for it. He thought the management might put off the exam if he sent a bomb threat. He took his father’s laptop and created an email ID (hachaswamyvenkat96@gmail.com), using the name of actor Huccha Venkat.
He sent the email around 6.20pm on Sunday. “There is a bomb planted on the campus of the school, it will explode tomorrow at 10 o’clock try your best as the effect will be there for 200 feet radius (sic),” he wrote. The boy signed off with: “thx with regards bomb terrorist.”
The boy told police he expected the school to declare holiday for 3-4 days on receiving the bomb threat.
Police traced the boy with help of the IP address by late Monday night. They said they would send a report about the incident and the minor to the child welfare committee and other officials concerned. They will also decide on the measures needed to counsel the boy.
Panic prevailed among students and staff on Monday morning after the school management opened the threat mail around 8.30am. A few hours later, cops declared it a hoax after a thorough check.
