KOLKATA: Five children sustained splinter injuries after miscreants threw bombs at them when the kids refused to leave the playground near which the bombs were kept in Narendrapur’s Daspara. All kids, aged between 12 and 13, were playing football when the incident occurred around 10.45am on Friday. Four persons have been arrested so far.
The kids have been identified as Arnab Haldar, Surya Chowdhury, Bikram Naskar, Suman Das and Laltu Adya. When one of them went to the sidelines to collect the ball, he found bombs kept there. The goons, who were guarding the bombs, then asked them to leave.

“But they kept loitering around the bombs. Infuriated, the miscreants picked up two crude bombs and threw at the boys. The first one narrowly missed them but the second exploded near them. All five fell on the ground and started writhing in pain,” said a source.
As some locals came to their rescue, the miscreants fled. Police later took the boys to Baghajatin Hospital. Police said the kids were safe and the splinters were removed from their bodies. Barupur police district ASP Maqsood Hasan said, “We have put up a police picket there.”
“It is sad that even kids are not being spared in fight between two TMC groups,” said CPM district secretary Samik Lahiri. Prabir Sarkar, TMC president of Kheyada 2, said: “Police didn’t find any bomb there.” Minister Firhad Hakim said, “The culprits should be behind bars.”
