PUNE: Health officials are gearing up to involve Ganesh mandals across the state in vaccination drives to push up the booster dose count in the 18-59 age bracket. “We are bracing to hold drives at Ganesh pandals, besides offices, malls and weekly bazaars, to promote booster dose vaccination in the 18-59 years category.
Festival organisers of prominent Ganesh mandals as well as those who have enough space and arrangements would be roped in to hold the drives during the festival period,” said the state immunisation officer, Dr Sachin Desai.

“Municipal corporations and Zilla Parishads have been asked to rope in Ganesh mandals in their areas in the vaccination drive. Festival organisers can also contact local health officials to hold vaccination drives at pandals,” Dr Desai said.
Dr Sanjay Patil, the chairman of the Indian Medical Association’s Hospital Board of India, said, “Pune and Mumbai have several prominent Ganesh mandals. Their participation in the vaccination drive will certainly push the numbers.”
Shrikant Shete, the president of Shree Kasba Ganapati Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, a 130-year-old mandal in Pune, said, “It’s a very good initiative by the state government. We shall cooperate with the health officials in making this initiative a success.”
