BENGALURU: The students and staff of National Hill View Public School, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, of which Congress leader DK Shivakumar is the chairman, went into a tizzy on Monday morning after the school authorities received a bomb threat via email. However, it turned out to be a hoax.
According to police, the message was sent by firstname.lastname@example.org to the school’s mail ID around 6.20pm on Sunday. The miscreant wrote: “There is a bomb planted on the campus of the school, it will explode tomorrow at 10 o’clock try your best as the effect will be there for 200 feet radius. Thx, with regards, bomb terrorist (sic).”
Police said the administrative staff saw the mail around 8.30am on Monday and informed the cops and school management. All the students were shifted to Unit-2 building on the premises. Aisshwarya DKS, Shivakumar’s daughter and secretary of the school, also rushed to the spot and pacified them and their parents.
Meanwhile, the bomb detection and disposal squad and sniffer dog squad conducted a thorough check and by noon, cops declared it to be a hoax threat. The school declared a holiday for the day.
Cong leader appeals for calm
Shivakumar said the school principal and staff had received the e-mail from a person called Hucch Venkatesha or Venkata and had immediately taken precautions. “…I appeal to parents not to panic. Our schools are perfectly safe with high security. We may even consider checking at the entrance from tomorrow.”
Actor and social media celebrity Huccha Venkat issued a statement warning people against using his name and indulging in such activities.
