MUMBAI: A builder and his six bouncers who allegedly assaulted a tenant owing to some civil dispute and injured him seriously, were arrested by the Tilak Nagar police in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Surprisingly, the incident took place at a bank opposite Tilak Nagar police in Chembur. However, it took 26 minutes for the police to reach the scene of crime, claims the complainant.
Interestingly, the proprietor of Arihant builder is Hemendra Mahapara, the same builder who was arrested for the Sargam Society building fire in Tilak Nagar in 2019, in which five persons were killed. Mahapara who was released from jail in 2021, was accused of several illegalities, including giving possession without occupation certificates and NOC from the fire brigade, selling off the 15th floor refuge area, selling open parking near the main gate, thus blocking entry to fire engines, and an inadequate fire-fighting system.
In the fresh case, a flat buyer Rajeev Verma is the complainant. Verma along with his family members had gone to his newly redeveloped flat in-Krupa Elite which is opposite the Tilak nagar police to perform Pooja when he was stopped by the builder.
Arihant developers carried out the redevelopment of the said building. However police said that there is some alleged dispute with regards to the flat of Verma with the builder. The building does not have OC, Verma claims that he has paid full payment but the builder is demanding more Rs 1.25 crore from Verma and this has led to a dispute between them.
“On Wednesday, when Verma and his kin entered the flat, builder’s six to seven bouncers blocked Verma and assaulted his family members with sticks and sharp weapons,” said an officer.
Tilak Nagar police have booked Mahapara and six bouncers under the IPC sections of rioting, attempt to murder, assault and 120 B of criminal conspiracy and they will be produce before the court on Thursday.
