MUMBAI: Crime branch has arrested businessman Moazam Hussain for demanding Rs 50 lakh from a developer.
The complainant, Vijay Verma, runs the realty firm Azzo Real Estate. In late 2000, Verma was told that he had claimed extra commission for a project in Bhiwandi. Verma lodged a complaint after the accused with three others had procured property documents of his project and demanded Rs 50 lakh for returning them.
The anti-extortion cell of the Mumbai police arrested Hussain, a resident of Khairani Road in Sakinaka, and are looking for a few others who were partners in the crime. Hussain was produced before the 37th Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court which remanded him to police custody till March 14.
