MUMBAI: A 68-year-old man was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in 2018. The child and 10 witnesses deposed during the trial before the special POCSO court.
The prosecution said that on September 2, 2018 at 2.30 p.m, the child went to answer nature’s call near the flour mill of the accused. It was alleged that the ‘chakkiwala’ called the child and took her in.
It was alleged that when the child refused to respond, he held her hand and dragged her along with another minor boy. Both were sexually assaulted by the accused.
The prosecution said the accused gave her Rs 5 and told her not to tell anyone about the incident.
The incident came to light the following day, after the child began to bleed profusely.
The court fined the accused Rs 1 lakh and was found guilty under section 376 (2) (l)(whoever while committing rape causes grievous bodily harm or maims or disfigures or endangers the life of a woman).
