Panjab University’s (PU) affiliation committee in a recently-held meeting deferred the case of granting temporary extension of affiliation to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) course at the management institute of DAV College, Sector 10, for the current session.

While taking up the matter, the committee requested the head of the inspection committee to see the compliance of the college and place the reply before the committee in its next meeting, which is scheduled to be held on March 15.

The affiliation committee, which was constituted by PU vice-chancellor Raj Kumar last month, considered the cases of around 25 colleges based in Chandigarh and SBS Nagar Punjab in its last meeting.

The panel cleared over a dozen cases for the grant of temporary extension of affiliation. However, the committee also deferred the cases of around eight colleges on various grounds including the MBA course at management institute of DAV College. After clearance by the affiliation committee, the matter is taken up by varsity syndicate and senate for final approval.

The inspections committee has outlined a number of deficiencies at the institute. A member of the panel said, “During the meeting it was outlined that the inspection committee had made some observations and the college had not sent the compliance report to the university. So, they have been asked to place the compliance before the next meeting.”

Before the pandemic, PU syndicate in November 2019 had declined to grant the temporary extension of affiliation to the management institute for the 2019-20 session.

Meanwhile, the case of granting temporary affiliation to M Voc fashion technology and apparel design (first year) at GGDSD College, Sector 32, was also deferred by the committee. The panel recommended that justification be sought from the college principal for starting this course without an approved syllabus.

The committee did, however, recommend grant of temporary extension of affiliation to two other courses of the college for 2021-22 session.

Next meeting on March 15

The cases of around 45 affiliated colleges are listed to be considered by the affiliation committee for the grant of temporary extension for 2021-22 session. The next meeting will be held on March 15.
