BENGALURU: A civil engineer landed in police custody for allegedly impersonating an assistant executive engineer working with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
The accused is C Parameshwar, 30, a resident of Ideal Homes township in RR Nagar and native of Bidar.
Parameshwar, after graduating as a civil engineer, worked in some private companies but quit citing low salary. He then started helping BBMP contractors and engineers in preparing estimations for roadworks and blueprints of private buildings. He earned commission for the work and gradually, his network with BBMP officials widened. But Parameshwar did not stop there. Using a computer, he allegedly produced a fake ID card reading: ‘Parameshwar-AEE-BBMP-employee code-18678-Engineering department’. Though the ID card was fake, its dark-blue colour tag with BBMP imprinted in Kannada and English was original, police said.
But his luck ran out on August 17 when he tried to barge into ‘Krishna’, official residence of the chief minister, saying he was personal assistant to the chief secretary and had come to attend a meeting. His uneasiness and the ID card made the staff cross-check with BBMP authorities and the chief secretary. Both offices said they had no such employee.
‘Krishna’ staffers alerted High Grounds police and Parameshwar was detained. A detailed interrogation revealed his con. “The accused said he had been masquerading as an AEE for 8-10 months. Mainly, he works like a broker for commission. But we are yet to find out whether he has cheated anyone of money. We request the public to come forward and file a complaint in case they were cheated by him. We are studying his bank account details and mobile phone for possible clues,” a probe officer said.
