MANGALURU: The Mangaluru police inducted four Cobra two-wheeler traffic patrol vehicles, two each for Traffic East and West police stations respectively.
This will help in reducing the response time and resolve traffic issues.
Police commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R Jain told reporters that the vehicles were launched on Tuesday. These are dedicated vehicles to address traffic issues. The vehicle will have a siren and mike setup. The police will rush to address any traffic incident or accident.
“They will streamline parking and take action against wrong parking by quickly putting wheel clamps and so on. We will concentrate on freeing footpaths from hawkers. The teams will be continuously on rounds so that designated areas are better to traverse. They will play an important role in managing VIP movements or helping in creating a green corridor for ambulance movement,” he said.
Once the department gets more vehicles, the facility will be extended to other police stations in the city and it is probably for the first time that such a facility is introduced in the city. The traffic patrol vehicles were flagged off by the city police commissioner in the presence of DCP (Crime and Traffic) BP Dinesh Kumar, ACP traffic subdivision Geetha Kulkarni and other officials.
A few years ago, the Bengaluru city traffic police launched a special squad of policemen named Cobra patrol teams who would respond to traffic congestion and road accidents within 10-15 minutes.
