PUNE: The crime branch of the city police on Friday night arrested a criminal on record and his accomplice on the charge of pushing a retired software engineer (65) into a 6ft nullah and robbing his two gold chains near Mrutyunjay temple on Karve Road on June 21.
The duo arrested are criminal Anil Satpute (32) from Kothrud and his friend, Anket Kadu (29,) from Karvenagar. The retired software engineer, Uday Pendse from Kothrud, had suffered injuries to his shoulder and ribs after he was pushed into the nullah while he was smoking near it.

Senior inspector Anita More from the crime branch (Unit III) said, “Eyewitnesses to the robbery had given description of the two men but their whereabouts could not be ascertained. We worked on clues and collected intelligence inputs about them. On Friday, our policemen received information that the duo would be meeting near Hanuman temple in Kothrud to sell the booty.”
More said, “A police team under the guidance of additional commissioner of police (crime) Ramnath Pokale laid a trap and took them into custody. Satpute, the main suspect said that he had pushed Pendse into the nullah.”
