KOLKATA: Bengal government and the UK government are setting up a centre of excellence for electric vehicle skill development in Kolkata. The UK government chose Bengal for its pioneering role in introducing EV in public transport. Apart from playing the knowledge partner, the centre is expected to standardise the EV ecosystem in the state.
On Tuesday, state power secretary S Suresh Kumar inaugurated the first ever workshop on “Building Electric Vehicles Charging Infrastructure in Bengal” that was organised by the British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata and West Bengal State Council of Technical & Vocational Education and Skill Development, in partnership with NPTC Group of Colleges Wales, UK.
S Suresh Kumar said, “It is crucial that technical support is available for the EV charging infrastructure. Skill development is crucial for manufacturing and maintenance of electric vehicles. The centre of excellence will introduce innovation and this will help in the dynamic development of infrastructure and manufacturing. The technical education and skill development department is the right destination for the centre.”
