Facebook announces Live Audio Rooms, Soundbites and in-app podcasts support to take on Clubhouse – Times of India

There has been speculation for a long time that Facebook is working on its own version of Clubhouse and now the company has made it official. In a blog post, the company has announced a series of features that are coming to the social networking platform to lure the users of audio-based interactions.
Live Audio Rooms
The company has announced that it will start testing Live Audio Rooms, which is then expected to be rolled out soon in the Facebook app and Messenger in the coming months.
The company plans to first test the Live Audio Rooms in Groups and as part of this initial rollout, it will also make it live for public figures as well including American football quarterback Russell Wilson, Grammy-nominated electronic music artist TOKiMONSTA, artist and director Elle Moxley, and five-time Olympic medalist and entrepreneur Nastia Liukin.
Facebook is going to add a new feature called Soundbites that are short-form audio clips. Facebook wants its users to use it for anecdotes, jokes, moments of inspiration, poems, etc.
This feature will also start rolling out in a phased manner and will be available for creators such as comedian Drew Lynch, accessibility advocate Lolo Spencer and more.

Another feature coming to Facebook is support for playing podcasts within the app. The company says that there are already more than 170 million people connected to hundreds of thousands of podcast pages on Facebook, and more than 35 million people are members of fan groups around podcasts.
Now to tap on this user base the company will be rolling out the support to listen to podcasts directly on the Facebook app — both while using the app or when the app is backgrounded.

Audio tools
Facebook said it is testing AI-based enhancements for audio. This will include improvement of audio quality despite disturbance in the background, support for background music from Facebook’s Sound Collection mixing of audio tracks, voice effects and filters and more.
Also, it will offer captions on all the aforementioned audio tools.
