NAGPUR: The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) has started the process to develop Vidarbha‘s first Divyang Park at Surya Nagar in South Nagpur. It will be developed in such a manner that persons with 21 types of disabilities can learn and enjoy without support of their guardians and caretakers.
NIT chairman Manoj Kumar Suryawanshi gave a presentation on the project to city MP and Union minister Nitin Gadkari, who assured to get sanction for the project, also named as Anubhuti Inclusive Park, from the central government. “Government sanctioned Rs11.71 crore for the project under Scheme for Implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (SIPDA). It will be developed on NIT land. Tender has been floated for execution of the project,” he said.

Suryawanshi added a school for teaching basics of welfare and improvement of life for persons with disabilities (PWDs) is part of the project. “It will come up in sprawling 6,600 sq m land and will be equipped with all types of state-of-the-art facilities for PWDs,” he said.
There are over 200 gardens in the city and many across Vidarbha. But there is no garden specially for PWDs. It would be the first where only PWDs will get entry. The guardians or caretakers will have to leave the PWDs at the entrance gate of the park, and wait in a waiting arena to be developed for them.
The NIT operator will appoint persons to guide as well as take care of PWDs inside the park. Entire park will be developed with various gadgets, systems, sensors, sounds, mechanisms etc which will help PWDs to walk, dance, seek knowledge, sit, play, listen to music or do whatever activities they wish to perform.
AAP leader and PWD activist Abhijeet Jha said, “The project is unique and impressive. It will for sure empower children with disabilities if developed as per plan. Also, the park will enlighten and strengthen their unique skills and potential by training them in a systematic manner, if operated in a proper manner. Need is to spread awareness among PWDs of the city as well as those residing in rural areas. Entry, education and recreational facilities including food should be free of cost.”
