KOLHAPUR: The work of runway extension at the Kolhapur airport is likely to pick pace now. An additional fund of nearly Rs 37 crore has been granted to the Maharashtra Airport Development Company for acquiring 64 acres for the extended runway at Kolhapur airport.
The MADC is the authority for development of airports. The general administration department of the state government has issued a circular regarding the funds on Thursday evening.
Officials said work of acquiring 24 acres of the 64 acres has been completed so far, while the remaining land acquisition is in progress.
The revised administrative approval for the runway extension was given on May 5, 2022. The proposal of Rs 212 crore was sanctioned. As per the requirement, Rs 100 crore were demanded on May 19, 2022 and fund of Rs 52 crore was given on June 1, 2022 in the first phase of the work. The additional fund released on Thursday are part of the total sanctioned amount.
Along with the Kolhapur airport, the revised administrative sanction for the Ratnagiri airport of Rs 97.44 crore was given as per government decision dated October 4, 2022.
Of this, the amount of Rs 35.15 crore has already been disbursed. Now, according to Thursday’s letter, further funds of Rs 25.84 crore have been disbursed. Due to the fund availability, the expansion works of Ratnagiri airport will speed up, the officials said.
