PUDUCHERRY: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has thanked the central government for scrapping the import duty for Remdesivir and oxygen.
“We are happy to note the government has withdrawn the import duty tax for both Remdesivir and oxygen. We are anticipating 50,000 metric tonne of oxygen to be imported to our country at this crucial time by the benevolent decision of the government,” said IMA national president J A Jayalal and honorary secretary-general Jayesh M Lele in a joint statement issued on Saturday.
The IMA appealed to the medical fraternity to stick on to the judicious and rationale use of the drugs and make sure everyone who is in absolute need are getting them at appropriate time.
The association also appealed to people not to get panic. “..for all those who absolutely need, the medicine is prescribed and provided,” the duo said.
“The need-based supply, surveillance on ensuring the drug Remdesivir and oxygen reach the hospitals directly from the sources and ensuring judicious and rational use of them are effectively promoted by the government of India along with state monitoring agencies,” they said.
