Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka had scored 146 at the loss of five wickets, and in reply, Team India achieved the required total with 19 balls remaining.

Talking about the Indian innings, the hosts were off to a woeful start as skipper Rohit Sharma perished for a record-sixth time to Dushmantha Chameera’s bowling. For the second match running Shreyas Iyer was called out for duty early and he once again responded well.

Iyer tried to ride the storm alongside Samson, the two of them were looking to repeat their heroics of Saturday, but just when they had started to click, Samson was dismissed by Chamika Karunaratne in the 7th over of India’s innings.

Young Deepak Hooda joined Iyer at the centre and he was looking in good touch but again Lahiru Kumara put the breaks on India’s innings to send Hooda back to the dugout after he was clean bowled.

Ravindra Jadeja (22 of 15) walked out to bat and combined well with Iyer to lead India past the finishing line. Both of them remained unbeaten to hand India a 6-wicket win.
