NAGPUR: Aashish Jaiswal, an independent MLA from Ramtek in Nagpur district, is all set to join Eknath Shinde group in Guwahati. Jaiswal reached the Assam capital on Thursday morning.
He on Thursday answered ‘yes’ to a query on whether he had reached Guwahati.
However, an unanswered call a little later ended with the network message in Marathi which meant he was still in Maharashtra, but was on his way to Guwahati.
Jaiswal, a former Shiv Sainik, fought the 2019 polls successfully on an independent ticket after his constituency went into alliance partner BJP’s kitty.
After winning, he immediately pledged loyalty to Shiv Sena and was seen prominently with CM Uddhav Thackeray at a few public events in Nagpur, during the 2019 winter assembly session. Sources close to Jaiswal always maintained that Sena high command had given him the go-ahead to fight as an independent since BJP refused to part with the seat.
Since the last 2 months, Jaiswal has been very vocal about his unhappiness with funds allocation in MVA. Jaiswal lodged a complaint directly with CM Thackeray, just days before the RS polls.
While Jaiswal has spoken to TOI today and confirmed his intention to join hands with Shinde, a public announcement of the same is expected later in the day.
