The Indo-Pacific launch of the series of interactions, ‘Arts Alive – The Arts, The Artists and The Times,’ was held at the Ashutosh Birth Centenary Hall at the Indian Museum recently. Rowan Ainsworth, consul general of Australia in Kolkata, and Sayan Bhattacharya, education officer, Indian Museum, were the guests of honour at the event. The launch was supported by the Australian High Commission, The Indian ministry of culture and the Indian Museum, among others.
The Arts Alive Indo-Pacific series, curated and organised by Ramanjit Kaur and Tammy Brennan of an Indian and an Australian creative organisation respectively, is a series of interactions that aims at mapping the journey of creators and curators before, during and after the Covid-19 pandemic. Bringing together art curators, practitioners and funders from India, Australia and other parts of the world, the series looks into the intersection of multiple artistic disciplines in order to create and curate performances and interventions in the international cultural context.

Speaking about how she conceived the idea, Ramanjit said, “It was during the pandemic, when the artists had no work but went all out to entertain people , that I realised how important it was to document what was happening during that time. It was art that kept us sane during those testing times.”
Rowan Ainsworth, the consul general of Australia in Kolkata, said, “This series will help us reflect on how we have all adapted and transitioned to the new normal and will also serve as a record for many other artists.”
