However, that does not mean life will get any easier for Morgan’s men, as first up for them in Mumbai on Wednesday will be MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who are currently on a roll.
In contrast to KKR, Chennai have two wins to show, the last being a fairly comfortable one against Rajasthan Royals on Monday. Significantly, they have played all their three matches at Wankhede and are at home in Mumbai.
KKR coach Brendon McCullum’s indications of changes could well be the need of the hour before things start getting out of hand. For one, Sunil Narine could well come in for Shakib Al Hasan. The Bangladesh player hasn’t really fired the way the team would have liked. Narine will be eager to turn the clock back.
KKR have other issues to worry about.
Dinesh Karthik hasn’t quite stepped up, nor has Morgan. Andre Russell did give a glimpse of his capabilities with the bat against RCB, but he had too little time to work any magic. There could be a case here to push him up, an issue that has been a reason of discord in the past.

Another issue that KKR would need to address is the captaincy. Morgan’s decision to hold back spinner Varun Chakravarthy after a very successful over against RCB had experts all worked up. Another wicket at that stage could have changed the game completely.
Coach Brendon McCullum admitted it was a wrong move. Hopefully it will be a lesson learnt.
CSK, on the other hand, are in a comfortable space. After the defeat to Delhi Capitals in their first game, they have regrouped pretty well.

There have been multiple performers, whether it is Suresh Raina, Moeen Ali or Deepak Chahar. That should please Dhoni, who is more than just a captain in the side.
Even though a ‘Dhoni special’ is awaited, the team management would be quite happy to let things travel at its pace.
