AURANGABAD: MP Imtiaz Jaleel on Saturday sent a letter to chief minister Eknath Shinde raising a series of issues and requesting him to address the long-pending demands of the district.
In the letter, Jaleel also brought up the decision to rename Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He wrote that Sambhaji Maharaj’s name is being used for political gains. “We do have immense respect for Sambhaji Maharaj, but at the same time, we do not appreciate the name of such a great leader being used for petty political gains,” Jaleel wrote.
He went on to say that if the government wants to rename the city, then there should be an open voting mechanism to let citizens decide if they want to rename the city at all or not.
Jaleel touched upon the alleged move to privatise the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), which is the largest state-run health facility in the surrounding 12 districts. He raised the matter of two people, including a 10-year-old, reportedly dying due to the delay in reaching the hospital. Jaleel pointed out that the delay was caused due to extremely bad road conditions in the rural areas. He demanded a special package for the construction of quality roads for better motor connectivity.
Jaleel also demanded a special package to upgrade the historical Aam Khas ground to a stadium, and also for farmers who have suffered due to incessant rainfall in the past few days.
