MANDYA: Minor irrigation minister JC Madhuswamy on Friday inaugurated an irrigation project worth Rs 188 crore in Pandavapura taluk of Dudda Hobli in Melukote assembly constituency.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the project is aimed at providing drinking water to the surrounding villages. “The project was planned when MLA CS Puttaraju was the minor irrigation minister in the Kumaraswamy-led Congress-JD(S) coalition government. It will help people in the segment get potable drinking water,” he said.
“Water from Cauvery and Lokpavani rivers will be pumped from the newly constructed pump house to supply drinking water to the villages. The project is beingconstructed in two phases.”
“A water collection point has been built at Kalenahalli village to pump quality water to the lakes in the area. A 21-km-long pipeline has been installed, which has helped in the development of 54 lakes. More lakes will be revived in the coming days,” he said. Manmul president BR Ramachandra, minor irrigation and groundwater development secretary C Mrityunjaya Swamy, among others, were present.
