BENGALURU: The ECI is in the thick of printing several crores of pages of documents for distribution across Karnataka for voters and officials. In less than 10 days, the ECI has the Herculean task of printing Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC), Braille EPIC cards, voter rolls, supplementary rolls and voter slips besides ensuring that they reach the end users on time.
A senior official in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka told TOI that in Bengaluru alone, the ECI must print 18 lakh EPIC cards for distribution among new voters, 8 crore pages of electoral rolls to be sent to polling stations and over 30 crore pages of voter slips for distribution. About 20,000 Braille EPIC cards in A4 size will also have to be printed using special technology.
“Out of the 18 lakh EPIC, we have already printed 13 lakh cards. Of these, 4.4 lakh cards are ready for dispatch. In the next two days, the remaining 5 lakh cards will also be printed along with a personalized message to the voters from the deputy commissioners of each district, asking them to cast their vote. We are almost printing 3 to 3.5 lakh cards daily,” the official said.
EPIC within 24 hours
While the ECI is trying to deliver EPIC to voters within 24 hours in Bengaluru limits, other urban centres may take two days and the rural areas three days.
In Bengaluru, the commission has already dispatched EPIC cards in Malleswaram, Basavanagudi, Rajajinagar and Gandhinagar. “We will soon start posting EPIC cards in Chamarajpet, Chickpete, Govindarajanagar, CV Raman Nagar and Mahadevapura constituencies. The other segments will be taken up within April 10. In case, if any new voter has not received the EPIC card, he/she can raise the request on our social media handles. We will ensure the EPIC is delivered,” an official said.
