BENGALURU: When 23-year-old Fardeen Khan, a resident of Rajajinagar and a retail store manager, was travelling with his family from Sira in Tumakuru to Bengaluru recently, they met with a road accident. As a result, he sustained multiple injuries.
He was immediately rushed to Sira government hospital, but his condition remained critical. He was eventually transferred to Sparsh Bengaluru, by 1.30am on June 5. However, he was declared brain dead a few hours later.
Despite being in a state of grief, the family, whose only son was Fardeen, decided to go ahead with organ donation, giving a new lease of life to six others.
Fardeen’s right kidney and liver were successfully transplanted to patients at Sparsh Hospital, Yeshwantpur, while his heart was sent to Narayana Hrudayalaya. His left kidney and pancreas were sent to Apollo Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, and corneas to Narayana Nethralaya. Joseph Pasangha, group COO, Sparsh Hospital, said, “The decision is commendable. Organ donation is a powerful act of compassion and has the potential to transform lives.”
