Karnataka: Shravanabelgola Jain Mutt seer Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamy passes away at 73 | Mysuru News – Times of India


HASSAN: Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamy of Jain Mutt at Shravanabelgola passed away at a private hospital in Mandya district on Thursday. He was 73.
Chief minister Basavaraja Bommai in a tweet condoled the death of the seer. He stated that the last rites of the seer will be performed with full state honors as per Jain tradition.

“We were deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing away of the most venerable Jagadguru Karmayogi Swastishri Charukirthi Bhattarak Pattacharya Mahaswami of Srikshetra Sravanabelagola. His passing away is an irreparable loss to the world and I pray for his soul,” the CM tweeted.
The seer, who was born in the year 1949 in Varang of Karkala taluk in Udupi district, pursued his MA in History from University of Mysore and an MA in Philosophy from Bangalore University. He ascended as the chief of the Shravanabelagola mutt in the year 1970. Four Mahamastakabhishekas were performed at Shravanabelagola under his guidance.
