KOLKATA: The Kolkata Traffic Police is launching a special campaign on the correct usage of helmets and seat belts to prevent fatal accidents. The drive will begin on Monday (March 20), which is observed as the World Head Injury Awareness Day.
In the past 48 hours, police have prosecuted over 145 bikers for not wearing helmets. The seat belt prosecutions are still being tallied.
The cops will be advocating use of belts for passengers seated in the front as well as rear although prosecutions will be limited to those not wearing seal belts in front seats. Cops will also share real-time incidents and tips on how use of these basic devices save lives.
On March 20, the Association of Neuroscientists of Eastern India will hold joint campaigns at multiple crossings across the city, including Park Street-JN Road crossing, 7-point Park Circus crossing and Minto Park. “We want to involve doctors in the campaign to drive home the message that simply buckling up in a car or wearing a helmet properly while riding a two-wheeler can be life-saving in case of an accident,” said an officer.
