President of the association GS Lamba said the recent hike in collector rates by the government has further taken a toll on the real estate sector, which was already reeling under a crisis. he added a state level meeting of the association is scheduled to be held in Ludhiana on July 28

A day after submitting a memorandum of their demands with housing and urban development minister Aman Arora, Punjab Colonisers and Property Dealers Association conducted a meeting in Ludhiana on Tuesday to discuss issues regarding the illegal colonies and collector rates hiked by the government in the recent past.

Irked over FIRs being lodged against colonisers and the failure of the government in issuing no-objection certificates (NOCs) for plots in unauthorised colonies, the colonisers’ association had announced to protest rally/meeting in Ludhiana on July 28, following which a state-wide agitation would be announced against the government.

The colonisers rued that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in its election manifesto had mentioned that the illegal colonies would be regularised, but no steps have yet been taken by the government. Rather, the departments have initiated action even against colonisers who have applied for regularisation under the policies floated by the previous governments, they said.

President of the association GS Lamba said the recent hike in collector rates by the government has further taken a toll on the real estate sector, which was already reeling under a crisis. “NOCs are not being issued against the plots in unauthorised colonies despite being stated in the regularisation policy, floated in 2018, that plot holders can individually get the plots regularised in the illegal colonies,” he said.

“A state level meeting of the association is scheduled to be held in Ludhiana on July 28, following which we will announce the state wide agitation as the government is not paying heed to the issue,” Lamba said.
