Jagraon City police have booked a Shastri Nagar resident for allegedly hiring two goons for assaulting a Gurey village resident. However, the goons shared with the information with him.

The accused have been identified as Raju Bansal alias Savinder Bansal of Shastri Nagar in Jagraon, Mandhir Singh alias Sunny of Agwad Lopo village and Harbans Singh alias Aman alias Ravi of Beer Gagra village.

Complainant Harnek Singh said he had filed an RTI query to get information about grants received by the panchayat for carrying out development projects in the village as he suspected some embezzlement.

Soon after filing the query, he started received threats, he told the police. Meanwhile, Mandhir and Harbans informed him that Bansal had offered 20,000 to them for assaulting him.

Harnek said that he filed a police complaint after receiving the information. However, the police kept on delaying the action, he alleged. The FIR in this matter was registered on Friday.

The complainant further alleged that some politically influential people were also involved in the crime.

Jagraon City SHO Heera Singh said the FIR has been registered under sections 116 and 120-B of the IPC against the accused.

He said the FIR was registered following an inquiry. The police will arrest the accused soon, he added.
