PUNE: The state government on Sunday issued a fresh order allowing beauty parlours to remain open with 50% capacity only for those activities that do not require removal of masks. The order also allows gyms to operate with 50% capacity.
Clarifying some issues arising from the government’s order on Saturday, state chief secretary Debashish Chakrabarty said, “Facilities for Covid testing outside malls and public establishments have been made available as an option for people. They are not mandatory. The Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) kiosks are only a facility to help in testing and are installed at public places. This may include places outside railway station, bus stands or malls,” he said.
Chakrabarty added that in case, after a thermal scanner check at malls, if any person entering the facility is showing symptoms then he/ she may be asked to check at the RAT testing kiosks which would be located close by. However, it is not mandatory for entering the mall. A person entering the mall has to be double vaccinated, he emphasised.
Aseem Kumar Gupta, principal secretary (relief and rehabilitation department) said, “We are trying to create as many RAT test booths as possible__ they should be available conveniently. It is not expected to be done free of cost but at government rates. We have allowed beauty parlours for activities that do not require the removal of masks.”
He said these are sincere attempts to balance economic and regular activities vis-a-vis the potential threat of spread. They are hoping that citizens follow basic restrictions and Covid appropriate behaviour as it is the only way to avoid further spread and harsher restrictions.
Meanwhile, the state and the civic bodies’ orders on Sunday specified that only fully vaccinated persons shall be allowed to use beauty parlours and gyms and the staff at these establishments must be fully vaccinated.
Earlier on Sunday afternoon, the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations (PMC/PCMC) had issued orders based on the state’s directives announced on Saturday that barred operation of gyms and beauty parlours. But a second order was issued on Sunday evening in the wake of the state’s fresh order these establishments to operate with some riders under their jurisdiction.
“The new changes will be implemented from Monday. The updated order was issued after the state made the changes about keeping some facilities open, which were not there in earlier order,” Ravindra Binwade, additional commissioner of PMC, told TOI.
Based on the state’s order on Saturday, other curbs have been imposed under PMC and PCMC areas too. No movement of vehicles and people, barring those engaged in essential services, will be allowed from 11pm to 5am except for essential services. No movement of five people or more is allowed from 5am to 11pm.
Only fully vaccinated people will be allowed in malls, markets. Schools, colleges and coaching institutes will remain shut for offline attendance till February 15. Students of Std X and XII can attend schools in person.
Private offices have been advised to call just 50% of the staff. Only fully vaccinated employees can physically attend office.
A maximum of 50 people are allowed for marriages or social gatherings. A cap of 20 people at funerals has been introduced, the orders issued by the PMC and PCMC said.
