Maharashtra: Ichalkaranji district judge on walk hit by biker, critical | Kolhapur News – Times of India

KOLHAPUR: RN Ambatkar, a 54-year-old district judge at the additional district court of Ichalkaranji in Kolhapur district, suffered a critical head injury after being hit by a motorcycle during a post-dinner stroll on Yadrav-Jambhli road on Tuesday evening.
Local residents first shifted him to a private hospital in Ichalkaranji from where he was taken to a neuro-surgery speciality hospital in Kolhapur. A doctor at the hospital said, “We performed a surgery on Ambatkar on Wednesday morning and are waiting for signs of improvement.” The doctor declined further comments on the judge’s condition.
The motorcyclist, Anil Ramchandra Jadhav (45), also suffered injuries to his head, chest and shoulder and lost consciousness after falling off the bike. He is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ichalkaranji and had not regained consciousness on Wednesday. His younger brother, Shamrao, told TOI, “Anil has been working as an accountant with the Parvati Industries in Ichalkaranji.
He was returning home from work at the time of the accident.” The Shahpur police in rural Kolhapur have registered a case for offences under sections 279 (rash driving) and 338 (act endangering life and personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code and under the Motor Vehicles Act provisions against Jadhav.
Kolhapur district superintendent of police (SP) Shailesh Balkawade told TOI, “Prima facie, the incident appears to be of a road accident. We haven’t yet come across any evidence to indicate a deliberate act, but we are not ruling out any possibility and our investigation will look into all angles.”
Balkawade said: “So far, we have seized the bike involved in the accident and have recorded statements of the witnesses who were around the accident spot and took the injured victims to the hospital.
We are yet to record the statements of the family members of the judge as they are attending to him in the hospital. The spot where the accident occurred doesn’t have CCTV coverage, but we are looking for footage from nearby places as a part of our investigation.”
