A 46-year-old man resident of Ulhasnagar died, while the pillion rider got injured, after the bike they were travelling in got stuck in pothole on the Mumbai-Nashik highway near Ranjnoli naka and threw them on the opposite ends the road, with a speeding dumper truck crushing the rider, killing him on the spot on Saturday evening.

The Kongaon police registered a case against the unknown dumper driver.

The deceased has been identified as Brijesh Kumar Jaiswar, 46; the pillion rider was identified as Ram Sharma, 22. Jaiswar was a contractor while Sharma was a labourer who was heading to Thane from Ulhasnagar.

According to Sharma, there was slow moving traffic and therefore Jaiswar took the extreme right to overtake cars. However, in the process, the bike’s front wheel got stuck in a pothole. Jaiswar was thrown off the bike on the opposite side of the road which has the Mumbai-to-Nashik traffic.

“After the bike got stuck in the pothole, the deceased fell and was immediately rammed over by a dumper who was travelling towards Nashik side. But the dumper driver fled from the spot without helping the injured. We have registered a case against an unknown dumper driver,” senior police inspector G Pingle said.
