Mahua Moitra’s ‘Hindus in danger’ tweet after Bengal’s Howrah violence

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Saturday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party over the “Hindus are in danger” narrative even as the ruling TMC and the opposition party are engaged in a blame game over the Howrah communal violence in West Bengal during Ram Navami celebrations.

The TMC firebrand MP alleged that the “narrative” will go on till 2024.

“The ‘Hindus are in danger’ narrative started full flow by @BJP as of Ramnavami. Will go on till 2024. Pak attack, Foreign forces targeting India bakwas running slow this time. Only fool-proof fallback is Hindu card. Jai Maa Kali. Buddhi de maa. Save my country,” Moitra tweeted.

The situation in Howrah district’s Kazipara area, which witnessed clashes between two groups during a procession on Ram Navami, is peaceful and under control on Saturday, even as prohibitory order was still in force in the area, an officer said.

Shops and markets opened as traffic movement started from the morning amid heavy deployment of police in the area, the officer said.

Internet connections remained suspended even as prohibitory order under CrPC Section 144 was still in place in and around the area where several shops and residences were vandalised during the clashes, he said.

The state CID has over the investigation of the clashes, the officer said.

Meanwhile, police continued with raids throughout the intervening Friday-Saturday night and nabbed a few more people for their alleged involvement in the vandalism.

Several shops were ransacked during the violence while a number of cars including a few police vehicles were set on fire.

On Friday, chief minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the BJP and other right-wing organisations were behind the violence in Kazipara area.

The BJP denied the allegations of Banerjee and instead demanded an NIA probe into the matter.

Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday spoke to governor CV Ananda Bose over the violence and took stock of the situation.

Union minister Smriti Irani accused Banerjee of protecting those who pelted it with stones. “Even then Mamata Banerjee could not protect the Hindu community,” Irani said. “Instead of delivering justice, CM Mamata protected those who took law in their hands and attacked the Shobha Yatra of Ram Navami. She instead put those who took out the yatra in the dock and gave a clean chit to those who pelted the procession with stones,” Irani said.
