BENGALURU: The skeletal remains of a woman were found on an isolated property in Akshayanagar, Hulimavu, southeast Bengaluru, on Thursday. Police suspect they could be that of a 22-year-old Nepali woman who had gone missing from her home in the same area in the wee hours of July 8 last year.
Based on prima facie evidence found near the skeleton, including a slipper and a neck chain, police suspect that the remains belong to Pushpa Dhami. Forensic science lab officials have collected DNA samples from the woman’s bone marrow to identify her. According to Hulimavu police, a man went to the spot around 10am to attend nature’s call. But he was shocked to see a skull hanging by a dupatta from a tree branch and other skeletal remains on the ground. He informed cops about it.
Cops rushed to the spot and found the slippers and necklace. They recalled that they had registered a missing woman case in July and called the complainant, Amar Dhami, a security worker. He identified the slippers and chain as those of his wife.
DCP (southeast) CK Baba told reporters that soon after police got to know about the skeletal remains, instructions were given to check all the data on missing women. “A case of unnatural death has been registered and further probe is on,” he said.
According to police, Dhami filed a complaint about his wife’s disappearance on July 13, 2022. He stated that his wife Pushpa had asked him to take her to Nepal on July 7. He told her they would go after three months and she was angry with him over this.
She left home at 2.30am on July 8, informing her cousin she would go to her parental uncle’s house in the city. But she did not go there, police said. Dhami suspected that his wife might have returned to Nepal. On learning that she had not arrived there, he filed a missing person complaint with police.
