PUNE: Murder accused Aakash Bhosale, who pushed his wife (22) and their daughter (2) out of a train near the Khadki railway station on Saturday morning, was nabbed the same night by police as he reached Sassoon General Hospital with a billhook on finding out that his wife was alive.
“We arrested Bhosale (32) and seized a cloth bag in which he was carrying a billhook,” senior inspector Pramod Khopikar of the Government Railway Police, Pune, told TOI. “During questioning, he said he wanted to eliminate Vrushali if she was alive. After recovering the billhook, we invoked provisions of Arms Act against him, apart from other charges such as murder and attempt to murder.”
On Sunday, Bhosale was produced before a holiday court, which ordered his remand in custody till March 24.
Authorities at the Sassoon Hospital said that Vrushali’s condition was critical. She was in her first trimester of pregnancy and suffered a miscarriage owing to the fall. “The woman has not shown any improvement since the time of admission. Unfortunately we could not save the foetus,” said Dr Shriniwas Shintre, head of the orthopaedic department and in-charge of the trauma care ICU at Sassoon Hospital. Vrushali’s two-year-old daughter, Aarya, died while undergoing treatment.
The officer added that Bhosale was arrested by the Hadapsar police in early 2013 for killing his first wife, Manju Tingre. “On December 6, 2013, the Bombay high court ordered his release on bail and he married Vrushali in 2019. Apart from the first murder case, he has been booked in six different body and robbery offences.”
“On Saturday morning, Aakash told his wife that they were going for an outing at the Haji Ali Darghah in Mumbai and the family boarded the Pragati Express from Pune railway station. The train reached Khadki station, when he got up and asked his wife to come near the door. They were travelling in a general compartment,” the officer said.
“As soon as his wife came close to him, he pushed her out. Fellow passengers raised an alarm and called the railway control room. By this time, the train had reached Dapodi, where Aakash pulled the chain and ran away. Authorities shifted the injured mother and daughter to Sassoon,” he said. The police said his motive was that he suspected infidelity on his wife’s part.
The police told Vrushali’s brother to call Bhosale and inform him that his wife and child were alive. “Aakash told us that he was furious after receiving a call from his brother-in-law and came to the hospital with a billhook to kill her,” he said. ” His father stays at Hadapsar and his brother is based at Saswad,” he said.
