THANE: A Sangli resident was arrested by the Naupada police for allegedly posting objectionable content against Shiv Sena MP Dr Shrikant Shinde and senior BJP leader and union cabinet minister Narayan Rane on a popular social networking site, the police informed Saturday.
The police acted swiftly on a complaint filed by a Thane-based Shiv Sena supporter D Gawas who spotted the objectionable content against Shinde and his family members on a social networking site. The police also found derogatory messages about Rane and his family following which they swung into action and tracked down the accused to Kadegaon village in Sangli using technical expertise.
“The accused has been identified as Pravin Pawar. He is unemployed and a habitual drinker and stays with his parents and is known to create nuisance in his locality. He has no political affiliations and it seems he may have posted the content under the influence of alcohol. We tracked him down with the help of the local police and arrested him. He has been presented before the court,” informed Ganesh Gawde, deputy police commissioner, zone –I, Thane.
