MANGALURU: A bank manager in the city has filed a complaint with Mangaluru East police against a woman official, accusing her of misusing the gold ornaments kept in the locker of the bank at Alake.
Complainant Jacob Thomas stated that customer Abdul Samad had pledged 386.5 gram gold on August 1, 2019, to avail loan. Abdul was in foreign country and had not returned to hometown due to Covid-19 pandemic. He had arrived at the bank on April 17 to collect the gold that he had pledged. However, the gold was missing from the locker.
During inquiry, it was found that bank’s officer, Ovia N, who was working at that time, and her family members, had used the gold worth Rs 29.2 lakh to pledge the same in other banks.

A complainant alleged that he lost Rs 1.2 lakh after clicking a link pertaining to a part-time online job. The complainant said that he received a link from an unknown number on May 23 that offered an online part-time job. After clicking the link, he was asked to complete the task. Later, Rs 1.15 lakh was deducted from the bank account.
In another case, a complainant stated that in the name of updating KYC, he lost Rs 3.10 lakh recently. He had received a call in the name of a bank officer to update KYC and sought details on credit/ debit cards. After obtaining OTP, the money was deducted from his account.
Mangaluru CEN police have booked two separate cases.
