KOLKATA: The Lake Town police are on the lookout for a young shopkeeper who has shut his thriving business of operating a popular store near Jaya Cinema for over three decades and is apparently “missing” after he had taken loans and food supplies stocks from multiple businessmen — many of them distributors and suppliers of top F&B chains in India – worth more than Rs 5 crore.
Multiple businessmen have lodged complaints against Rahul Dharnidharka and his father Chandra Prakash alleging he had taken food supplies stocks worth several lakhs and didn’t pay the amount. He also took advance against the stock and didn’t deliver the stocks and took loan from persons known to the businessmen and didn’t repay them.
“We have been dealing with him for several years and kept supplying him stocks worth several lakhs in advance without asking for upfront money. But for the last few months he started defaulting and then last month he closed his shop and is not responding to our calls,” said one of the businessmen.
A senior officer of Lake Town police said, they have been searching for Rahul for quite some time but have failed to locate him.
“His parents have also lodged a missing diary and say they have no clue about him. We are on the lookout and are also tracking the money trail and are questioning people known to him if they know what he had done with all the money,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar Commisionerate.
