BENGALURU: Much has been said about former chief minister and Congress Legislature Party Leader Siddaramaiah’s hunt for a ‘safe seat’ and his decision to step away from Badami in Bagalkot district and contest from Kolar in the forthcoming assembly elections.
But Siddaramaiah is not the only one. Several others across parties are planning to either shift constituencies or contest from two seats.
KPCC president DK Shivakumar is among those who are reportedly contemplating a change. While he is still in two minds, he is contemplating contesting from Maddur in Mandya district leaving his Kanakapura seat in Ramanagar district. He may also contest from both seats. This is because supporters have advised him that it would be easy for him to emerge as a Vokkaliga face if he wins a seat in Mandya district.
“Our supporters urged me to run in good faith from Maddur. However, I am nottoo keen since the move would send out the wrong signal,” said Shivakumar.
Former KPCC president G Parameshwara says he has also received requests from various quarters in the party to move from his SC-reserved Koratagere seat in Tumakuru district and contest from either Nelamangala in Bengaluru Rural or Pulikeshinagar in Bengaluru Urban. “My supporters want me to contest one of these seats as the possibility of winning is quite high. Let the party take a final call. As of now, I amcampaigning in Koratagere,” said Parameshwara.
BJP minister B Sriramulu has nearly decided to move from his Molakalmuru seat in Chitradurga and is considering the option of contesting his original Ballari Rural seat of Sandur in Ballari district, or both.
Sriramulu left Ballari Rural to contest from Molakalmuru but he was asked by the party to contest from Badami to take on Siddaramaiah. However, he lost Badami by a thin margin but won Molakalmuru easily. “The return of Sriramulu to Ballari is good news. It will help the party, but the final call will be taken by the party leadership,” said BJP MLA G Somashekhar Reddy who represents Ballari City.
H Nagesh, an independent MLA from Mulbagal in Kolar, recently joined Congress and functionaries say he is planning to contest from Mahadevapura in Bengaluru city.
JD(S) MLA from Mandya, M Srinivasa has invited former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy to contest from his constituency. If Kumaraswamy contests from Mandya, it will help the party retain all seven constituencies in the district, Srinivasa said.
However, party sources said Kumaraswamy is not keen.
Bhavani, the wife of former minister HD Revanna is keen on contesting from Hassan or Holenarasipura. “In case Bhavani gets selected to contest from Holenarasipura, then Revanna may move to Hassan seat,” said party functionaries.
