NAGPUR: Sleuths of anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Tuesday caught class-I officer, sub-divisional officer and accounts officer from district water conservation department red-handed for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50 lakh from a contractor for clearing his bills.
The accused officers have been identified as district water conservation officer and officiating regional conservation officer (Nagpur) Kavijeet Patil (32), sub-divisional officer water conservation officer class-I (Chandrapur) Shravan Shende (46) and divisional accounts officer (class-I, Chandrapur) Rohit Gautam.
According to ACB, a 46-year-old civil contractor from Nagpur had been conducted a survey of Kolhapur weirs and had submitted bills for his payments.
However, the trio class-I officers had demanded Rs 81,02,536 from the complainant to clear his bills. As the complainant was not ready to pay bribes, he approached ACB’s Nagpur unit and lodged a complaint against the trio.
Following this, a trap was laid on Tuesday and Shende was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50 lakh from the complainant. ACB officials said that Shende had accepted the bribe amount on behalf of Patil and Gautam.
Deputy SP Anamika Mirzapure laid the trap under the guidance of SP Rakesh Ola and additional SP Madhukar Gite. Mirzapure was assisted by senior PIs Sachin Mate, Sarang Mirashi, Pravin Lakde and constrables Santosh PAndhare, Vikas Sayre, Sarang Balpande, Sushil Yadav, Babita Kokarde, Geeta Choudhary, Asmita Meshram, Karuna Sahare among others.
On Wednesday, the ACB will produce the trio before the court to demand their remand for further investigations.
