NAVI MUMBAI: A 64-year-old retired teacher stayed with the decomposed body of her husband who died four days ago at their Panvel flat. The deceased, Mustaq Naik (71), was a retired electrical engineer of BARC. The childless couple had kept themselves away from siblings and relatives.
Mustaq was suffering from blood-clotting in the brain, which resulted in attacks. The ex-chairman about the housing society, learnt of the death on Friday and informed the police about the death.
“Naik’s wife Nasreen (64) is a retired school teacher. The couple did not allow anybody in their flat and avoided talking to neighbours,” said VN Thakur, ex-chairman, Pioneer cooperative housing society who said that he was the only person allowed in the flat to check on the couple.
A foul smell emanated when the woman opened the door on Friday evening, he said. “The flat has no power supply due to unpaid bill and windows were shut. Mustaq was unwell for over a decade due to clotting in his brain, which resulted in epilepsy-like attacks,” Thakur said, adding that he informed Mustaq’s family.
The body was lying in the bedroom with doors shut, said SD Nate, a cop from Panvel city station, adding that the body has been taken for postmortem.
A normal death report has been registered, said sub-inspector Anil Rajure of Panvel city police station.
Dr Babaso Kalel, a government forensic expert said the death had taken place due to cardiac arrest. The person must have died about four days ago, said Dr Kalel.
