NAVI MUMBAI: Over 275 rescued destitutes at the New Panvel based shelter of Social and Evangelical Association for Love (SEAL) celebrated the 75th Independence Day with an impressive marchpast and the unfurling of the tricolour.
The former vice chairman of Maharashtra state minorities commission, Dr Abraham Mathai, who is the chief patron of SEAL Ashram, told TOI, “It is a sheer joy to see how the underprivileged children and adults; some of whom are mentally challenged or suffer from serious ailments; have improved a lot healthwise after being rescued from the roads, railway platforms, and brought to SEAL Ashram. It was truly a happy occasion to see how compassion shown towards these destitutes has made them into healthier and happier human beings who can even celebrate our freedom anniversary.”
The founder of SEAL Ashram, Pastor K M Philip, said, “Since 1999, we at SEAL have been rescuing the homeless and desperate cases who were found in heart wrenching conditions on the roads as there was no one to take care of them. We also reunite those rescued persons who are able to recall their home addresses and family details. On our Independence Day, we are unitedly celebrating and praying that the nation shall progress further while also taking care of the poor and homeless people.”
The participating inmates wore ‘tiranga t-shirts’ to showcase the tricolour, while enthusiastically praising our motherland.
Dr Mathai, who is the head of Harmony Foundation, added, “As we celebrate the 75th year of our nation’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, it reminds us of the monumental freedom of these marginalized people of our society from their harrowing condition before the SEAL Ashram rescued them. The Harmony Foundation truly commends and salutes the selfless endeavour of the SEAL Ashram, and their dedicated team who have followed the truest ideals of kindness and benevolence, of which the revered Mother Teresa was a true embodiment. In a world that is easily swayed by materialistic pursuits, it is organizations like the SEAL Ashram that revive our hope, faith, and trust in humanity.”
