NAVI MUMBAI: Residents in the NMMC nodes like Belapur, Nerul, Sanpada, Vashi, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli and Airoli will have to brace for water cut for at least 12 hours from 10am to 10pm on May 30 and low-pressure supply on May 31 since the civic body has enforced shutdown at Bhokarpada water treatment plant near Morbe dam to carry out the repairing and maintenance work of the main supply line between Morbe dam and Digha in view of ensuing monsoon. Residents have expressed their resentment over the water cut during extreme summer.
Moreover, the Cidco node of Kamothe and parts of Kharghar which are directly connected to Morbe dam supply line will also be affected due to the shutdown. NMMC city engineer Sanjay Desai said, “Repairing and maintenance work has been taken up in the main line and water treatment plant which leads us to enforce a 12 hour shutdown, as a pre-monsoon preparation.”
Water cut without making alternate arrangements is troublesome for the people, complained residents. According to the NMMC report, the dam has just 30% of its stock which can only stretch till the first week of August. In case of late arrival of monsoon, the civic body will prefer further rationing of water supply. Residents are now encountering a day-long non-supply a week with the nodal wise rationing system.
