The jathedar had called for a meeting to chalk out the next course of action in response to the crackdown on Waris Punjab De (WPD) chief Amritpal Singh, his supporters and other radicals in Punjab.

The gathering is scheduled to be held on March 27 at the highest Sikh temporal seat.

Jaskaran Singh, who remained Amritsar police commissioner, before taking charge of the intelligence wing chief, had a closed-door meeting with the jathedar for around one hour at the latter’s residence which is situated on the first floor of Akal Takht secretariat in the Golden Temple complex.

Responding to the media queries after the meeting, Jaskaran said, “It was just a personal visit, and there was no other motive for the meeting. When I served as CP, Amritsar, I often used to meet Jathedar Sahib. Before taking charge of the present post, I could not pay obeisance at the Golden Temple.”

He ruled out that any discussion regarding the Panthic gathering took place during the meeting. “No such discussions were held on the topic. We had a general discussion on his security,” he added.

The gathering at Akal Takht has been called for planning the future strategy on the circumstances prevailing in Punjab.

The gathering was announced a day after the jathedar issued a fresh statement on the Punjab Police operation, stating that, “governments must initiate talk with the Sikhs” to find an amicable solution to their issues if they want to stabilise Punjab.
