HAVERI: A little more than six weeks are left for the start of the 86th Akhila Bharath Kannada Sahitya Sammelana to be hosted in Haveri, but the run-up to the literary fete appears to be marked by indecision on the part of the authorities concerned.
Notwithstanding the paucity of time, the authorities have changed the venue for the Sammelana – the event, which was earlier slated to be held at the Suvarnakara Sangha land near the TMEA institution, was changed to the RTO office on the outskirts of Haveri town, which was changed with the authorities deciding on Ajjayya temple.

Following concerns over difficulties in reaching the RTO office, which is too far from the centre of Haveri town, the organisers, despite having started cleaning the place for the literary fete, decided to change the venue a second time.
The new venue near Ajjayya temple is not too far from the National highway-48 bypass, and furthermore, is a sprawling plot spread over almost 70 acres. In addition to the main dais, the place is large enough for three other stages to be erected. Organisers pointed out that the venue was easily accessible to people travelling to Haveri from Davanagere, Hubballi, and Sirsi. Farmers, and real estate developers, have agreed to allow the use of the land for the sammelana.
Meanwhile, Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Mahesh Joshi said that the plot near TMEA institution that they had first alighted on as a probable venue for the sammelana was entangled in a legal dispute, compelling them to look for a different site.
“The new venue near the Ajjayya temple is most ideal for hosting the event,” Joshi said. Haveri deputy commissioner, Raghunandan Murthy said that people travelling for the sammelana from other districts would find the new venue most convenient.
“The district in-charge minister inspected the site, and has given his nod. We have commenced work on preparing the land for the sammelana,” Murthy said.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat has also altered the emblem for the 86th edition of the Kannada Sahitya Sammelana. The emblem, which earlier featured Kanakadasa, Sarvagna, and Santa Shishunala Sharif, will now be changed to include images of historical and cultural spots of Haveri district.
